South Burlington is my place for...everything!
Interested in attending SBHS but don't live in South Burlington? This page is for you.

For decades, South Burlington High School has built a proud tradition of educating students who hail from outside the city limits.  Nearly 20% of our students come from towns outside of South Burlington, including Grand Isle County and Georgia. We also have students from nearby Chittenden County towns who choose SBHS through the School Choice program.  We offer busing to and from SBHS for our students in Grand Isle County and Georgia. See below for more information.

SBHS is known for fostering a welcoming and accepting environment that allows students to be who they are and follow their unique passions and interests. We work hard to support students of all abilities and from all backgrounds to help them achieve their goals.

What our non-resident students say about SB:

SBHS is really good academically, and there are enough people here that you can always make friends. I thought Essex was so big that you’d get lost, and there are the private schools that have only 80 kids…SB is a nice in-between.” -CM

“I like the way the school works…junior privileges, and FACE time is really nice. Besides, the athletics are more competitive than if I went to some other schools. It was nice having people here that I knew that already did sports.” -IG

“My older brother went here because he had an IEP. Then I came here because he liked it so much. We like the administration and the academics more here than at other schools.”  - JM

The people I know that have transferred here from other schools have said there is no other place like this. SB is a more accepting, welcoming place than many other schools are.” -SK

Transportation
The school district provides busing to and from Grand Isle County and Georgia at no cost to sending families or districts. In the Islands, there are pick up and drop off spots in every town, including Isle La Motte.

Academics
All students are supported as they work toward mastering standards and graduation requirements and eligible students receive additional support to meet the goals noted on their Individual Education Plan (IEP). Our drop out rate is less than 1 percent! SBHS is committed to not letting students fall through the cracks.

Student Leadership Advisory Meeting (SLAM) and Advisory
All grade 9 and 10 students are members of a small teacher and/or peer led advisory group. Groups meet daily to help students with academic issues, teamwork, transition, and

Athletics: Home of the Rebels
SBHS has teams for athletes of all abilities. Despite our history of athletic achievements, there are several “no cut” programs offered to encourage participation by all students. Check out the athletics link on the left column to find out more.

Co-Curricular Activities & Clubs
SBHS recognizes the importance co-curricular activities play in rounding out a student's education. To achieve excellence and success in something outside the classroom gives students an added dimension of cooperation, well being, and self esteem.

Academic Honors
Many non-residential students achieve academic success at SBHS. Non-resident students populate South Burlington's honor roll and annually receive academic awards.
